Waverly,
for those who need it spelled out, is the main character of
the strip. Hence, his disembodied head replacing the "a"
in the logo to the upper left.
Waverly exists
in a sort of PEANUTS-ish universe, wherein he may refer to parents
as a concept, but we never quite see them, or too many other
adults, for that matter.
At times, the strip follows his daily adventures, and at other
times, he acts as a sort of Rod Serling like commentator on
the bizzare nature of things, life, and syndicated television.
Except he does not smoke, like good ol' Rod did. After all,
Waverly is only ten years old.
In the original notebook comics, Waverly's last name was "Person."
This had to change, as, coincidence of coincidences, I found
out there was a radio weatherman named Waverly Person. I can
randomly come up with this bizzaro name, but not match six stupid
numbers in the lotto. The universe is cruel.
